Two in the morning, a barn goes dark

A dairy barn without power is not an inconvenience, it is a milking schedule and a herd. Emergency calls are answered around the clock, and the truck that comes carries underground locating gear and a trencher rather than a promise to come back Monday with the right equipment.

Eight in the morning, a drive motor is out of tune

The same day, the same shop. Drive motor tuning, PLC controller configuration, and calibration of meters, controllers and transducers on a bench. Industrial controls work is in-house here, which is why a plant does not have to hold two contractors on file.

Both trucks come back to the same yard

N2858 County Highway QQ, north of Waupaca. Bauer Electric has worked out of this yard since 1957 and is now in its third generation. The sign on the building has the year on it, which is a slower way of saying we are not going anywhere.

We Provide Residential, Commercial, Industrial and Agricultural Electrical Services, and Bauer is a partner of Focus on Energy, Wisconsin's statewide energy efficiency program, installing Generac standby systems. No job is too big or too small, which in practice means a robotic barn install and a bad outlet get the same electrician.

The things people ask the shop.

Yes. Bauer Electric runs emergency service twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. A barn losing power at two in the morning is a different problem from a light switch that quit, and it gets treated that way.

Stray voltage is a small electrical potential a cow can feel through the floor, the waterer or the milking equipment. Animals back off feed and water, and milk production drops before anyone traces it to the wiring. We test for it and correct the source.

We own the equipment rather than renting it: bucket trucks, trenchers, a platform lift and underground locating gear. That is why parking lot poles and buried service runs are ordinary work here rather than a job we have to subcontract.
